I came up loving the Anita Blake series, which has a blazing love triangle, especially in books 1-7 or so, and I was surprised to slowly realize others didn't enjoy triangles of that sort. After reading Carolyn Crane's impressive debut Mind Games, the first book in Disillusionists Trilogy, I was eager to read Double Cross. Now that the year comes to an end, I decided to make a list of all my favorite books/series this year in the categories Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Paranormal Young Adult. (And if you haven't read Mind Games yet, what are you waiting for?! The list is on no particular order! I´m really curious to see where she takes the story and equally excited about her new project/ steampunk series! Between not having realized that Janine Ballard wrote a fabulous review of Mind Games, and frankly, not paying attention to release dates, I read both Mind Games and Double Cross back-to-back in a few days. With all the amazing titles that the urban fantasy genre has to offer these days Ms. To quickly put my spin on the first book, I thoroughly enjoyed the high tension level (the scare factor), the worldbuilding and the language, but felt that I had trouble connecting to Packard in particular.
